Aside from the fact that pies with graham cracker crusts are absolutely delicious, the major benefit to preparing graham crusts is they are very easy to make. Perfect for the seasoned pie-maker, pie-newbie, and everyone in between, this graham cracker crust requires only a few ingredients and not much time or effort to prepare. Other than buying a pre-made crust, graham cracker crusts are the easiest to make at home. For those who enjoy making homemade cheesecake, meringue pies, or any creamy pie, this crust recipe is a great go-to!
Things You'll Need
12 graham crackers (1 ½ cups ground up)
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/3 cup granulated cane sugar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
You can use any type or brand of graham cracker, so long as you end up with 1
½ cups of finely ground graham.
Make this recipe gluten-free by using gluten-free graham crackers.
Omit the cane sugar and use xylitol, erythritol, or sugar-free sweetener of choice.
Make the crust vegan by using vegan butter spread in place of the regular butter
Step 1: Gather Ingredients and Preheat
Gather the ingredients needed for the recipe. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit if you're pre-baking the crust. If the pie you're making does not require baking, you can skip the preheating.
Step 2: Grind Up Graham Crackers
Add the graham crackers to a food processor and process until ground into small bits.
Step 3: Add Remaining Ingredients
Pour in the melted butter...
...followed by the cane sugar and sea salt.
Step 8: Slice and Serve
Once your pie is complete, slice it and serve it up with your choice of toppings. Graham cracker crusts do not hold together quite as well as a traditional pie crust made with flour, so it's normal if you experience some crumbling.
