How to Oven Bake Honey Glazed Chicken Drumsticks
I am always on the hunt for new recipes to try out with chicken and my new favorite happens to be oven baked honey glazed drumsticks!
I love using dark meat because of it's deeper nutrient content and because it stays more moist than white meat. And honey glaze gives this chicken just enough sticky sweetness. These drumsticks would make the perfect party platter but also are great for a tasty main dish any night of the week. Just pair this recipe with any vegetable or a side salad and you have a delicious meal that your whole family is going to love.
Things You'll Need
- 2 pounds chicken drumsticks
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/8 cup of water
- Pinch of red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- Green onions for topping (optional)
Step 1: Preheat Oven to 425 Degrees
Step 2: Make the Honey Glaze
Make the honey glaze by combining honey, water, red pepper, apple cider vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until bubbling and reduce to a simmer for about 15to 20 minutes until glaze has reduced slightly. Set aside.
Step 3: Season Chicken Drumsticks
Season both sides of the drumsticks with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper and place on a baking sheet lined with a cooling rack for even cooking.
Step 4: Brush Glaze Onto Chicken Drumsticks and Bake
Brush a liberal amount of the honey glaze all over the chicken drumsticks while on the baking sheet and place in the preheated oven.
Separate half of the glaze so that you do not contaminate the whole batch with the brush that has touched the raw chicken. Save the other half for after the chicken has finished cooking!
Step 5: Bake Chicken for 25 to 35 Minutes
Bake the drumsticks for 25 minutes and then brush another coat of honey glaze over top of the chicken. Bake for another 5 to 10 minutes until the chicken is completely cooked through and skin is browned.
Step 6: Add More Glaze and Green Onions
When the drumsticks are finished cooking, brush with reserved glaze and sprinkle with green onions. Serve immediately.
